Yesterday I, Madhu (my niece) and Manikandan (nephew) went to Kiliyur falls in Yercaud to make the dull and otherwise boring weekend to make it interesting. We started early around 7.00 am by Kinetic scooter. Since I and Madhu are loners & we knew that Kiliyur falls will be bombarded with Salem guys along with beer bottles, we decided to make Kiliyur falls as our first destination. Reached there by 8.00 a.m, there was a considerable amount of scantily cladded male tourists, so to make Madhu feel comfortable, I took her and Manikandan to a remote corner where it was a nice waterfall and also deserted. Also Madhu is coming there for the first time, so she had a couple of slips on the steep path. Since we didn't plan to take a bath, we just came with camera alone. We kept chatting and teasing Manikandan. All went well till I started taking photographs.

It had been a long time since I had stood in a photograph, so I placed the camera on a small stone, set the automatic timer for 12 seconds. Madhu and Manikandan were already in the frame. So I rushed to stand with them, suddenly I found myself being pulled in. It was a scary moment as the pit was going on and on. I managed to catch hold of a strong tree root that had spread till that place and by the time my feet touched the ground, it was my neck deep.... It was a pit of 5.75 ft deep, really might have proved fatal for kids. After a second, the scariness was replaced by humour and we all burst into laughter. By the time I got up to laugh at me, 12 seconds were over and the camera clicked us.

Anyway I got drenched, so I pulled Madhu and Manikandan also into the water and we three had a rollicking time. My mobile got wet and repaired in this chaos. Obviously I and Manikandan took off our shirts to dry it... On the whole a nice experience.

When we told this to our relatives back at home, Salem, all were shocked and scolded us for being careless. When I told this to Vaithy, he told that only I could narrate a near-to-death experience in a comical way. But I don't think the experience was terrifying. It was a fun... Atleast as somebody who love and adore nature, water bodies etc., I hope my death won't be due to nature or water.
